Charleston Area Beaches

One of the great things about Summerville, SC is it's close proximity to several beautiful beaches each with their own distinct character!  Most can be reached with a 30-45 minute drive.

Kiawah Island

This first rate resort area was rated "Second Most Romantic Beach in America" by National Geographic Traveler.  Enjoy a laid back atmosphere and miles of amazing beaches.  There are also bike trails and 5 world-class golf courses.  Boat, fish, kayak, surf or view the incredible wildlife!

Beachwalker County Park has restrooms, showers, public parking, lifeguards and a picnic area overlooking the marsh.  Pets must be leashed at all times.  Surfing allowed.  $5.00 per car.  Park open from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. during summer.  Call 843-768-2395 or 843-795-4386 for additional information.

Sullivan's Island

This friendly, residential beach community boasts long stretches of sandy beaches.  There are no public facilities so parking is on-street with marked pathways to the beach at various stations.  After a day of fun in the sun, grab a bite to eat at one of the laid back pubs or restaurants.  Don't forget to check out the Sullivan's Island Lighthouse and historic Fort Moultrie.

There are bike paths along main roads.  Pets allowed, but must have a town license.  Leash laws apply.

Folly Beach

Known as "The Edge of America", more rustic and casual, Folly Beach beckons to beachcombers and surfers!  Enjoy fishing off the long pier or check out the Morris Island Lighthouse.  This is also a great place to surf and hosts several surfing competitions each year.  The wildlife is abundant here...loggerhead turtles come to nest near the lighthouse in the summer, dolphins can often be spotted off shore and Folly is a fantastic place to birdwatch.   Stop by one of the great bars or seafood restaurants at day's end.

Pets allowed, but year round leash laws apply.  Parking is available along the streets.  Nearby Folly Beach County Park has parking, public restrooms, showers, concessions and lifeguards.  $5.00 per car.  Park open from 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.

Isle of Palms

Beach homes line the shores of this 7 mile long, one mile wide island along with restaurants and hotels.  Park along the street or check out the new Isle of Palms County Park complete with showers, changing stations, restrooms, volleyball court, playground and let's not forget a most beautiful beach!  Lifeguards on duty on weekends.  $5.00 per car.  Call 843-886-3863 or 843-795-4386 for more information.   Two additional municipal lots also charge $5.00 per car.

Enjoy shrimping or crabbing at the local marina.  Surfing allowed, but with restrictions.  Boards cannot be within 100 feet of swimmers.  Pets allowed year round, but leash laws apply.
